Peru Facility Adds High-Capacity G&L HMC 290 The PGI Mfg., LLC Peru facility has recently added a Giddings & Lewis HMC 290 CNC Horizontal Machining Center. This new machine tool increases our maximum XYZ capacity at Peru to 57.5” x 49.2” x 47.2” and allows for increased flexibility in tooling and machining configurations. The new HMC moves at 1,417 inches per minute with a 61.5 horse power spindle and can handle pallet loads up to 5,511 pounds. This new machine was purchased to provide additional capacity for our ZF Transmission product as well as compressor stator housings for a new customer. A State-of-the-Art Robotic Cell at Rockford The PGI Mfg., LLC facility at Rockford, Illinois, has recently installed a state-of-the-art, robotically loaded manufacturing cell. The cell includes three Okuma L147BBM/650 CNC turning centers, one Okuma LB-300BBMY CNC turning center, and one Fanuc 410i Robot with VisLoc Vision. This fully-automated cell performs multiple operations and produces a completed component with virtually no human intervention. Raw castings are loaded into the cell on a conveyor belt and come back out as finished parts.
